The International Interior Design Association (IID

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) chapters focus on education, advocacy, and outreach to support designers at all stages of their careers. Accomplished by pure volunteer power, the work of high-performing chapters is recognized by awards at the national level. This year, we’re proud to celebrate the work of the IIDA Northern Pacific Chapter, currently led by one of our amazing interior designers, Randi Thomas, who just finished her term as chapter president.

Congratulations to the entire chapter for earning a Silver award for 2020 and to all the IIDA chapters for their dedication to creating community and advancing the profession.

Our interior design team has been working on an initiative to “green” our materials libraries, and before COVID-19 came into our lives, our offices were busy with transformation. In Boise, Katie Edwards and Elna Albano were spearheading the effort. One of the challenges was how to make disposal of materials no longer needed as low-impact as possible.

They began by sending items back to manufacturer reps and recycling as much as possible. They also put out a call to Boise team members to take home what they might be able to reuse. They saw great ideas for tile samples, carpet, vinyl flooring, countertop surfacing, fabric, and more. Elna’s personal favorite? Seeing people reuse material samples to beautify and improve their homes! From furniture levelers and plant coasters, to garage/art studio carpet and a “Scout-approved” sample area rug.

#SXSW 2020, here we come! Nicole Dovel-Moore (project manager and architect) joined forces with Nick Doherty (refrigeration engineering lead) to experience as much as they could at #euroshop2020. Part of our retail design team, they took in the sites and took note of the latest trends at the “future-oriented and dynamic” trade fair in Düsseldorf.

Some of their interesting finds: @bizerba_global’s POS and scale technology allowing customers to scan and weigh products as they shop; in-store harvesting concepts, such as mushrooms in an interactive display with recipe ideas; live plant grow coolers at @edeka, a grocery store/gastropub/patisserie with in-store cooking school, recycling, and dry cleaners.

And when they needed a lift, they took a #euroshop rickshaw!

Our education design team joined Treasure Valley C

Our education design team joined Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC) in Ontario, Oregon, to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Career and Technical Education center, which TVCC President Dana Young described as “a catalyst for economic recovery in our community.” Bob Miller, project manager with @petra_inc; Corey Johnson, architect and associate principal with @cushingterrell; Kathy Yasuda, TVCC Foundation executive director; and Dana Young, TVCC president, gathered for a photo opportunity at the event.

With space for welding, fabrication, agriculture, and industrial manufacturing, the facility was designed for student success.
