Stockman Bank Downtown Missoula
Cushing Terrell has enjoyed a 20-year partnership with Stockman Bank of Montana, creating a dozen new banks as well as numerous additions and renovations. Having its roots in agriculture, Stockman had facilities in many rural Eastern Montana communities. In the early 1990s, Stockman Bank (FirstWest Bank at the time) selected Cushing Terrell to design its first “urban” bank.
Working with bank leadership, Cushing Terrell led the creation of an architectural aesthetic that was both respective of the bank’s agricultural heritage and appropriate in its new urban locales. Masonry construction, utilizing polychrome brick and stone, recalls the permanence and presence of banks in the historic West. Curving walls, expanses of glass and metal eyebrows integrate a contemporary aesthetic into the traditional forms. The resulting brand identity is iconic and unmistakably Stockman.
Our most recent project for Stockman Bank is a new six-story, 65,000 sq. ft. building, plus 73,000 sq. ft. parking structure on the corner of Orange and Broadway streets in downtown Missoula. The bank offers a full complement of services including consumer, commercial, real estate, and agricultural lending.
The building’s exterior design is clearly identifiable as part of the Stockman Bank family featuring three stories of polychrome brick and stone, three stories of glass, and a curving glass lobby wall. It was recently awarded a rare LEED v4 Building Design and Construction: Core and Shell Platinum certification — one of only five in the world. This is the most energy-efficient building in Stockman’s portfolio and the most energy efficient bank/office building of its size completed by Cushing Terrell.
