St. Vincent Healthcare, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

For this project, our St. Vincent Healthcare client tasked Cushing Terrell with turning the existing open-layout pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), which consisted of four patient beds in one open room, into five private PICU rooms with family space for each patient. It also involved remodeling the nurses station to provide adequate storage for equipment and adding observation desks with windows into each new PICU patient room.

Patients on the pediatrics floor range from 2 to 16 years of age, thus a zoo theme was selected for its universal appeal. The hospital also partnered with the San Diego Zoo to provide a channel for patients to watch animals at the zoo live, as well as prerecorded educational programs staged by the zoo.
