Humboldt General Hospital Medical Office Building
As the original design firm for the Humboldt General Hospital (HGH), our team had the opportunity to build upon its long-term relationship with the client for the addition of a 31,000 sq. ft. medical office building and 16,000 sq. ft. renovation of the existing hospital. The addition and renovation helped the hospital meet the community’s growing demand for healthcare services.
Ease of wayfinding was a major project goal to ensure patients, visitors, and staff could easily navigate through the hospital. The overall site was designed for both future growth of the campus and optimum pedestrian safety. The team incorporated modern, high-performance features such as photovoltaics, high-efficiency boilers, extensive daylighting, a drip-irrigation system, and native landscape vegetation to enhance sustainability benefits as well as promote health and wellness for the end-users. Additionally, the Cushing Terrell team provided design services for the HGH AirOne helicopter barn for the hospital’s air ambulance transport.
For a subsequent project, to keep up with the fast pace of healthcare technology innovation, Humboldt General Hospital elected to upgrade their existing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system and our team was called in to assist. Upgrades included a remodeled MRI room meeting shielding requirements for the new unit, associated control viewing room, equipment room, HVAC upgrades, and waiting and dressing spaces for patients, as well as installation of an illuminated wall panel featuring natural landscapes. With warm finishes throughout, the design focused on creating a relaxing, healing environment for patients.
As a critical access hospital, Humboldt General provides a functional, dynamic, and aesthetically pleasing facility that delivers exceptional medical services to the people who work, live, and travel throughout north-central Nevada.
