Montana State Fund Office Building

The new headquarters building for the Montana State Fund in Helena was designed with a focus on issues of density and sustainability in smaller urban areas, while acknowledging the scale and context of historic downtown Helena and the developing Great Northern Town Center. The Montana State Fund building was a collaboration between Cushing Terrell and local firm Mosaic Architecture PC, and is a great addition to the ongoing history of Helena’s Last Chance Gulch area.

The 115,000 sq. ft. building is organized into two distinct floor plates that are slightly skewed from one another, lending to a wedge-shaped, light-filled atrium space that dramatically increases access to daylighting. The large glass curtain wall and ribbon windows on the perimeter add additional daylighting and a dramatic view of the surrounding mountain ranges. Photovoltaics, a heat exchange system, rainwater collection, and the use of regional products all contributed to a LEED Gold certification.
